I’m a former press officer who has worked extensively in an academic environment with Sociology and Education experts. I have a degree in Sociology, a teaching qualification and experience of tutoring the subject.

I begin the first lesson by introducing myself and asking about the tutee/ class. Try to get an idea of what they are hoping to / need to learn or need help with, what they have done so far, particular areas where struggling. I then give an outline of what plan for the lesson. As I progress with the lesson I regularly check in to make sure they are following and understanding what I have been teaching. Also ask students to give their own examples, to answer questions and to carry out short exercises.
At the end of the lesson, sum up what had been covered and set tasks/homework for next time.
