About Lucy
I am passionate about making good quality learning accessible and fun for all, focusing on confidence building and study techniques. I aim to target students’ needs through differentiated session plans and resources and by breaking down learning points to build knowledge and understanding in the subject and how the student learns to create independence and open up opportunity.
I am an experienced tutor with 13 years’ experience. I specialise in working with students aged 14 years and upwards. I am a qualified teacher of English and Literacy having a Degree in English Literature and a Level 5 Diploma in Teaching English however I have tutored in general study skills/learning strategies, subject revision, exam preparation and the writing of UCAS personal statements.
I have a wealth of experience in working with students with SpLD’s and disabilities. I have particular experience of working with students with dyslexia which I am currently professionalising by completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Dyslexia and Literacy. I am also experienced in working with students who present with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) and have completed training with the National Autistic Society.
I have worked in vocational colleges and Russell Group Universities. I currently work as a part-time teacher of English Functional Skills teaching 16+ year olds, an ASD Mentor under the Disabled Students’ Allowance for Higher Education and I work as a moderator for one of the UK’s leading awarding bodies, moderating English qualifications which requires a good understanding of qualification structure and an attention for detail and quality.
In my spare time I am a keen crafter focusing my skills in crochet and sewing and I enjoy long walks with my Border Collie, Maggie.
