About Will

I have 3 years experience working as an innovation and strategy consultant and hold a BSc in Accounting & Finance at the University of Bath where I was the highest performing student on both my degree (1st of 86) and within the School of Management (1st of 500). I am half Japanese and half British, having lived in Japan, Singapore, and England as I was growing up. This background has strengthened my ability to connect with people across all backgrounds and build strong relationships. Having always enjoyed both maths and economics, I took them both at GCSEs and A-level, and now undertake a Bachelors in Accounting and Finance at the University of Bath. In addition to having had over 5 years of tutoring experience, I have also had the experience of running a non-profit consultancy whilst at university which required me to provide training to over 300 student consultants, helping me further improve my teaching skills. Academic background: - BSc Accounting and Finance - 1st Class Honours - A-levels Maths, Further Maths and Economics - A*A*A - GCSE/IGCSE - 10A*s and 2As

Primarily, my approach includes establishing a strong relationship of trust, openness, and fun for my students to create an atmosphere in which they feel comfortable asking questions. I was once both a student and a tutee so I believe I have understood the importance of making learning an enjoyable opportunity to keep the student engaged and concentrated. I believe that one of the best ways a student can learn is not through feeding information to them, but to get the students to ask questions and try and reach a resolution independently with the help and guidance of a tutor. However before the student may even feel comfortable in asking questions, it is important to break down the question/problem into smaller, digestible components so the student feels more comfortable with the subject. I aim to build up the student's confidence, not only to approach questions independently, but to also be curious in asking questions as I believe this is a fundamental basis of learning throughout life. In my lessons I typically like to begin by understanding what the student has worked on that week and how they felt about everything they’ve covered, making sure that we highlight any questions they may have had or areas they wanted additional help with. Following this, we will go through explaining the concept of these areas and working through some topic specific questions together to strengthen their confidence in that topic. We will then also focus on any other areas of improvement or build a foundational understanding of upcoming topics so that the student can also maximise their learning at school. Of course, every student is different and will therefore have different needs and I will therefore adapt my teaching approach accordingly, but the approach above outlines a standard lesson approach.
