About Samuel
I am a 19 year old independant Bass and Music Production teacher that currently attends Los Angeles College of Music, for Music Production and Audio Engineering. I have also been playing bass for almost 10 years. I live in Alhambra, CA.
As a highschool student I have given many students bass lessons, I taught the 6th grade midi production class at my school my senior year, as well as working with my schools special education department in teaching piano.
Since highschool, I have given 1 student guitar lessons for a short period of time when I lived in Florida. Other than that I have been mainly focused on school studies and my independant music career.
All my of experience as a music teacher has been centered around teaching children and young adults. I love seeing progress in all of their abilities, and most of all their love and admiration for music increase.
When I was learning music growing up, I was lucky enough to have very good teachers as well as very bad teachers. It has allowed me to see what sort of things work for creative and music loving students. Personally, I grew up and still deal with ADHD, so I know how hard it can be to focus on learning a new instrument, especially when progress seems slow or tedious. But with all of my students, I have taught around their interests, teaching them techniques that will help them accomplish the goals they've set for themselves, as well as getting them more sophisticated with their instrument.
I'm eager to start teaching again, because I get satisfaction from watching my students accomplishing things they find challenging and fun. I look forward to working with anybody who's seeking lessons!

I started teaching as a means of making money in highschool, but I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.
I have been playing bass for around 10 years now, I have played in musicals, rock bands and orchestras. I have recieved many lessons myself on bass. I also play bass for all of the music I produce myself.
I have been producing in Logic Pro X for around 5-6 years at this point, and it's currently what I am attending college for. I got into Los Angeles College of Music for Music Production and Audio Engineering with the help of a scholarship and though I'm learning a lot through ProTools, Logic Pro X is still my main DAW and the one I am best at.
Beyond Music Production and Bass, I also have performance experience as a vocalist, playing the lead (usnavi) for my highschools production of In The Heights, being the lead singer in a few bands, as well as performing vocals on my own productions.

About the lesson

For the first few lessons, I try to understand the students goals, music tastes, and familiarity with the instrument or program.
After that I set up my own goals for the student that are tailored towards them. I try to center these goals around their interests so that as they accomplish technical aspects, they are able to immediatly apply them to what gets them excited about music in the first place.
I say this because students (especially younger ones) tend to not be motivated by music and exercises that don't intrigue them. Students practice and improve the most when they are having fun, this is something any great musician will tell you. This isn't undermining hard work, but working hard and working hard towards something that makes you happy are very different.
I have worked mostly with early teens and preteens, I have also worked with the special education department at the highschool I graduated from.
Choose someone you like as a person. You should 100% consider their experience, but it's hard to learn from someone you don't want to see.
