I tend to like to get to know the student and figure out what he/she is all about. I want to develop that relationship.
Then, I ask them to list their strengths and weaknesses, and as we progress, I target the things they listed and pay attention to them. I assess my own knowledge from what I learn and see how we compare as we move along.
