About Lisa
Yes! I am teaching online! I have been teaching Art for over 25 years, and a professional award-winning artist my whole life. I teach Teens & Adults in my specialties of colored pencil and portraiture.
I love being able to work in my own field, and opening the door to art to so many. I also enjoy being a self-employed teacher and working mostly from home which has allowed me to be home with my kids while being a single-mom. After the quarantine, I was advised not to teach in-person anymore as I am high-risk. My students Love my classes even more because they say it is like looking over my shoulder while I work! And I don't have to ever travel to teach anymore, while teaching students from everywhere!
I began teaching when my oldest daughter was born (over 25 years ago) as a way to stay home, make a living and still be an artist. I worked with home-school co-ops, private school and Summer Camps for their art programs but I prefer to teach from home, where I have all supplies & materials on hand in my home/classroom/studio.
Attended the Corcoran School of Art, Washington, DC ; awarded Best in Show at the Strathmore 2021, Best Loudoun Artist 2018 ; Signature Member of the Colored Pencil Society of America & the Coloured Penciil Community of Australasia, Inc.

Students assimilate into ongoing classes and learn as much from me as they do from the way the other students have learned to work. I am a combination of my experiences of studio art classes & Art School along with experience in Montessori and Charlotte Mason methods.
I have worked with all students from the gifted to those who are developmentally or emotionally challenged. One thing in common, we all love to make art!
Talk to your teacher. Take a drop-in class. Make sure you connect and that the person is offering what you are seeking. I am not trying to be the art teacher for everyone, I teach adults only colored pencil workshops.
I recently got to teach the Loudoun Sketch Club about colored pencils. They are artists in all different media but had no idea of the possibilities of my medium. They said they learned a lot but mostly have a lot of respect for what I am able to do with my pencils! It was great time. I also did a featured artist event for Vienna Arts Society. maybe I have a new career as a public speaker!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Have an open mind to the teacher's methods. You may have something you think you want to learn but perhaps you should not tell the teacher how to teach. Find out what their methods are and why. I have been teaching for years with wonderful results. But I have raesons for all my methods. They come from both research and classroom experience of what works. And in what order to teach.

I love Lisa's teaching style. She is generous with sharing her knowledge and expertise, as well as her supplies with the class. She introduces interesting subjects to draw that I would never have picked myself. She challenges, encourages, and never rushes us. She is fun and upbeat.
I have taken several of Lisa's colored pencil workshops and they are fantastic! She really takes the time to work with each individual artist (of any skill level) and cater the class to their needs. Her unique approach to the colored pencil medium is refreshing and the techniques she teaches are invaluable! Highly recommend taking her classes!

Details
Classes are billed monthly through Patreon or a one-time fee for adult workshops through the Yellow Barn Studio. Materials used in class are available at a discount from Plaza Art but can be purchased anywhere.
