About Lisa
I am not teaching until January 2022. I broke my ankle in May and the recovery is very slow. You can follow me on FB and IG for now. Just look up Lisa Mahony Artist. I can't wait to get back to teaching.
I teach acrylic & digital painting. Teaching people how fun painting can be is what I do.
Mixing color, working on composition and creating mood, are what I work on every day. I can show you some simple ways to help you improve your paintings. It is a wonderful way to express yourself.
I taught at the Santa Paula Art Museum and exhibit at Harbor Village Gallery & Gifts at Ventura Harbor Village, Ventura California. I also exhibit with the California Art Club. I am an award winning artist who lives in Fillmore. 2018-2021 has put me more in demand and I have been lucky enough to get into bigger and bigger shows. My paintings are collected and I am grateful for that.
I am a artist member of the California Art Club and I belong to the Buenaventura Art Association. Enough about me...when do we start?

I like to see my students learn the basics of drawing and then we move on to a limited palette to learn color harmony. Working on small canvases to learn painting is the easiest way to learn. I assign homework but it is fun and should take you 30 minutes to do a week. I love seeing students turn that corner from frustration to pride.
I started teaching when people asked me to start. After a couple of years I started coming up with a system. My privates turned into places like the California Art Club, the Santa Paula Art Museum and the Boys and Girls Club hiring me to teach my methods. Too bad the coronavirus put everything on hold but that has allowed me to work on my duel acrylic and digital wave series. It is very exciting to see these two series forming. I have put a few up for sale on my website but mostly, I am getting ready to get a tight set to show some interested parties.
I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BA in art. I studied at the Cape Cod School of Art and with portrait painters in a series of workshops. I will be attending a workshop in August because I am always trying to improve and refine my work. This is crucial since I exhibit and teach. I hold critiques and I have also juried art exhibitions as well.

Well it is all about what their goals are and establishing a rapport with them. The fastest way to improve is to paint with a method and I bring that with me. They will learn how to draw, do thumbnails, mix color and then we work on tackling small projects. Learning how to set up a painting. How to block in your painting so you are layering for success.
All sorts. Casual to formal, youth to senior. Teaching is a way for me to share my knowledge and to help someone realize their talents.

Besides, we are excited to meet new people and help them paint to improve their portfolio or to paint for pleasure. I have helped all sorts of people. I have done portfolio critiques to lessons to painting excursions.

I find painting is a wonderful way to meet people and in order to make it worth my time a two hour lesson at $60 a class is what I charge. I will help you set up your supplies- selecting paint, brushes, mediums and which surfaces will give you the best results. There is over 25 years of experience I bring with me. Really, it is a shortcut for you!
