About Emily
As a professional drummer for over 20 years, I am passionate about teaching and sharing what I have learned about drumming. As an instructor, I guide students through everything, from the basics of drumming all the way through navigating the music industry. Drumming is my life and I am excited to share it with you!
I began teaching on my own by sharing my knowledge with friends and younger people. Eventually, I developed a curriculum and founded my business to teach professionally.
I received private drum instruction from the ages of nine into my 20's. I benefited greatly from these lessons and furthered my education through many other resources, including: Thomas Lang's Drumming Bootcamp; middle and high school band; Pikes Peak Community College; numerous clinics throughout the nation; as well as online learning. I have played professionally since the age of 14 and full-time since 2016.

My process begins with learning the student's preferred learning style, previous experience, and any special requirements. We then go step-by-step through a completely individualized lesson plan to build upon abilities.
The students I have worked with vary greatly, from ages 5 to 75+, all genders, all ability levels, disabled and/or special needs students, people seeking to just start drumming, and people who want to tweak their already established playing.
Many folks approach me saying they want to learn but don't have the coordination, or they're too old or too young. I always tell prospective students that ANYONE can drum. It may be a slower process for some than for others, but it is achievable and it is incredibly FUN. Drumming brings people great joy, and you deserve to experience it.
One of my favorite things about teaching and sharing music is that no one's brain operates the same way, so creativity and ideas can develop just from interacting. Recently, I was teaching a student who simply misunderstood the material and tried to do something that blew me away. It was not what was intended to happen but he and I both agreed it was a very cool mistake, and we created a new rhythm!
