About Ian
Ian has been playing drums since the age of 10 and has studied under the instruction of Jim Leslie for the past 7 years. In May 2017, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in jazz studies from the University of Dayton. While at UD he performed twice at OMEA Conference and once at JEN Conference with the Dayton Jazz Ensemble. He has performed with the Jazz Central Big Band, Sinclair Community Jazz Ensemble, the Dayton Jazz Orchestra, Dave Greer's Classic Jazz Stompers, and his own trio. He also has experience in drum and bugle corps, including the Racine Scouts and Cincinnati Tradition (2017 DCA Class A Champions). He released his first jazz recording, Greatest Hits, in April 2017.

Before teaching a new student, it is critical to understand his/her current skill level as well as what he/she wishes to gain from taking lessons. The lessons need to be properly tailored to the student, which cannot be accomplished without first learning where the student is coming from and wishes to go.
Privately, I've mostly taught beginning students. As a drumline section leader, I have taught in a group setting with college level players.
