About Chris
I teach acoustic guitar lessons for beginners, and drum lessons for beginners to intermediate. I have a very laid back and no stress style. I start from the very beginning and make each step a relatively easy transition. I will give you the tools you need to succeed. Your success will depend upon how much time you put into practice. I have been playing guitar and drums for over twenty-five years. I have played in several bands. I played with the praise and worship team at Palmetto Community Church in Charleston, SC for seven years. I currently play the drums with one of the Praise Bands at Praise Assembly of God in Glen Alpine. I live in Nebo, NC, 30 minutes South of Marion and Morganton, NC. I am also 30 minutes North of Forest City and Rutherfordton, NC.
I love music. I love to teach. Teaching guitar and drum lessons is a natural fit for me. I have a Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Education. I taught at the high school and college levels for 25 years. I have been providing drum lessons for about ten years. I currently play drums and guitar in a Southern Rock/Christian Rock band called HeartCross.
I took drum lessons for one year when I was ten years old. I have over 25 years of experience as a drummer. I have played in various types of bands from rock to country to praise and worship. My most relevant experience over the last decade is playing contemporary Christian music with praise and worship teams at contemporary churches. I have also provided drum lessons to several students and beginner guitar lessons to a few students over the last ten years.

We start with the basics. For drum lessons we learn 2 basic beats and we practice them until we are good at it. Then we introduce some drum rolls.
For guitar lessons, we start with 3 basic chords: G, C and D. They are called major chords. These 3 chords are the only 3 chords used in hundreds of songs. After that we introduce 2 minor chords: Am and Em. In the beginners lessons, students learn 6 major chords, 3 minor chords, and 1 Seventh chord. This is more than enough to learn to play many of your favorite songs. I also teach beginning students how to play variations of some chords to make them easier to play.

Chris was my first music instructor. He taught me the basic chords to get me started playing the guitar. He also showed me a few tricks to play chords the easy way for beginners. I found that to be very helpful! I learned a lot from Chris. I was so confident after learning beginner guitar from Chris that I later took piano lessons from another instructor. Today, I play guitar and piano. But without the confidence I gained from learning guitar from Chris, I probably would never have taken piano lessons.
Chris taught me how to play drums when I was ten years old. He is a very good teacher. He is very patient, and he knows how to start with the basics and add on a little with each lesson. He made me feel confident about playing the drums. I think I owe all of my confidence to him!
