About Larry

I believe that good teaching comes from combining a caring heart, an an educated mind, and high-quality teaching methods. I will go the extra mile to help my students succeed.

I am a professional writer and editor. I previously served as Senior Director of Research and Content Development for The Allied Group. Originally trained at Boston University's College of Communication, I learned how to write under hall of fame editor Tim Cohane (LOOK Magazine). I was also fortunate to receive mentoring in the psychology behind effective communication from world renowned expert Dr. Robert Cialdini, PhD. I taught a private public speaking class with 100 or more students for 20 years. SUNY awarded me 16 credits - an entire semester - for what Dr. Cialdini taught me. This became part of a business psychology degree I earned there in 2012.

I won 4 national awards for business system improvements I made for clients at The Allied Group, where I worked for 28 years. You can read what Dr. Cialdini, my writing clients, and the executives at The Allied Group wrote about me under Testimonials at (concealed information)

I am from a family of teachers and have been teaching in one form or another since I was in my 20s.  I began teaching Public Speaking in my 30s and continued for 20 years.  I am a passionate learner and enjoy sharing accurate information I've learned.

After writing the Expert's Blog for a nationwide facial plastic surgery practice, I started an online LookYounger.News.  I ghostwrite and edit virtually all of the articles for the plastic surgeons that appear on the site.  We have 25,000 readers in 143 countries.

Besides effective writing, I am also well educated in History and Psychology, particularly Social Psychology and Public Speaking.  When I applied for 2 college credits for Public Speaking at SUNY, the professor who evaluated me was a retired Vice President of Marketing at Time Warner Corporation.  After reading my essay and hearing a 45 minute talk, he awarded me a total of 6 credits for Advanced Public Speaking.

I would start by speaking with the student [or parent, depending on the student's age].  I'd try to learn their interests and needs, along with their learning style and educational strengths/weaknesses.  I would then determine which effective teaching methods I've learned to use in helping the student maximize their potential.

I have worked with students as young as 10 and as old as 60.

Don't just look at the teacher's college degrees - they merely tell you how good he/she is at learning - not at teaching.  Arrange a conversation with your prospective teacher.  Read what they've written.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kind of help do I really need?  What are my educational goals?  Do I know what I need to do to achieve those goals?  What kind of teacher do I best understand?  Who helps me the most?  What kind of teacher do I have a hard time learning from?  Who helps me the least?  Understanding these things can help you choose a tutor who will truly help you better understand the subject you want to learn.
