I like to get to know what a student's experience with writing has been. I get to know what they want to get out of tutoring and why they want help. I then like to hear there thoughts on their assigned prompts (or example promts if they are being tutored for writing in general and not for a specific assignment). Finally, I suggest different strategies for improving the way they construct sentences and paragraphs. I have some helpful structural techniques that assist students in formulating paragraphs that make them more organized and concise.
