About Myke
During my college sophomore year, my American Lit professor suggested I use my talent for writing to help fellow students and she recommended me for a tutoring position on campus. The 3 years I tutored for the graduation essay exam, I maintained the highest pass-rate, and it provided me with an unprecedented opportunity: As a student, I became the first, and the only to-date, to be allowed to instruct my own sections of university approved writing courses.
My teaching strategy & approach is simple: JUST MAKE IT SIMPLE. Coupled with an encouraging environment, I remove the "too-technical grammar/literature rules" that often becomes the basis of students fearing or disliking English classes. Leaving only essential aspects of grammar creates a foundation of knowledge to begin building stronger skills gives the student a wealth of self-confidence & academic AND personal achievement.
The most enjoyable aspect of teaching is not simply students growth, but moreso when students see & own the the fact that hard work does come with its rewards and they celebrate their success.
Bachelor's and Master's degree in English Language and Literature, in addition to a TESOL Certificate which allows me to teach English to Speaker's of other languages.

1. Breaking the ice & getting the line of communication started by asking Student what he/she feels own weaknesses are.
2. Give Student 2 easy-to-respond essay topics. Selecting only 1, Student will then be asked to write an essay response, typically allowed 30 minutes to complete. After giving feedback and giving Student opportunity to ask questions, tips and helpful pointers are given.
3. Typically each session will consist of timed essay, giving feedback, Q&A, and finally brief but beneficial grammar instructions that are simplified and presented so Student can create confidence is his/her untapped writing abilities.
