Firstly, I like to make the student feel comfortable. I know how important first impressions are and I also want to start off on the right foot. Then, I learn what the goals are of my student. Why is learning English important to them? Furthermore, I lay out for them how a typical class looks and from there we begin our first lesson.
I have worked with very young learners up to business professionals.
I would say that forming a respectful relationship with your tutor is very important. You want to make sure that you are clear with your English goals and that you feel comfortable with expressing your goals to your tutor.
Recently, my student got selected for an interview in English. We reviewed her resume together and after our chat she said her confiedence felt good, like she could complete the interview.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The students should think about why they want to improve their English? Also, how they want to improve their English and in what areas?
