About Jared
I am a straight-A student at the University of Kansas with extensive experience in history and writing courses and am hard working, patient, and well-organized.
As a history major, most of my major assignments during three years of college were writing assignments. Most of these assignments were either papers or exam essays. Specific assignments included 5-10 page book reviews, 2-5 page reading syntheses, annotated bibliographies, and primary source analyses, archival reports, and two research papers (one 14 pages, and the other 30 pages). In eight history classes, I have gotten seven A's and one A-. I attribute much of my success largely to my writing skills, especially my outlining and revising strategies.
I have taken four college courses in US history: World War II, World War I, Aviation in American Culture, and 1960s in the United States. I got an A in all of these courses except World War II, in which I got an A- during my first college semester from a notoriously difficult professor. I also wrote a 30-page research paper on the free speech judicial opinions of Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., for which I received an A grade.
I have taken three courses in East Asian History: Modern China, Chinese Business History, and Contemporary Greater China. I scored A's in the first two courses, and am doing well in the last one (which I am currently taking). I have also written a 14-page research paper on the Kuomintang (KMT) and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda attempts during the 1930s and 1940s, and am currently working on a research paper comparing the KMT's constitutional legal system in China in the 1930s and 1940s with the constitutional legal system the KMT has used in Taiwan since the end of martial law there in 1987.

My process for working with a new student consists of three steps: First, I get the know the students goals and difficulties so I understand how I can best help them. Second, I think through a plan for what we should focus on during our tutoring sessions so that my assistance will help them achieve their goals. Third, I present my plan to the student, and help them decide how often we should meet and how we can each contribute to following my plan and achieving the student's goals.
