About Douglas
Hello!
My name is Douglas English and my goal in life is to help the next generation be prepared to become better than the last. In my honest opinion, the only way to do that is through a great education. Now, how do you achieve that great eduction? My belief is through pure passion. My goal is not just to help you become more familiar with the subject matter, it is to make the subject matter become familiar with you. I achieve this by not only teaching the subject to my students, but to instill in my students passion and enjoyment of the subject at hand.
I recentlly graduated with a Master's Degree in Sociology at Arizona State University, earning a 4.0 GPA. Before that, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Crime, Law and Justice with a Social Welfare minor, earning at 4.0 GPA in my major/minor classes. Throught my time in schooling, I enjoyed every second of learning as I was passionate about what I was learning. However, I couldn't have done what I have done without those that helped me along the way. Now, it is my time to pass that help along so that I can see someone else enjoy the amazing benifits of a great education.
I enjoy helping people, plain and simple. If I could help those acheive a greater sense of enjoyment through learning, then I have done my job. I strongly believe that the only way for a student to effectively learn a subject is for them to enjoy the subject matter and for them to have fun learning it. Why do you think that many kids enjoy playing video games and/or playing sports, and knowing those subjects inside and out? It is becasue they enjoy them. My job is to not shove thoughts and ideas in my students faces and expect them to learn right away. My job is to give them a sense of control through thier learning, as I find that to be highly effective in instilling enjoyment through this process, which in turn will improve thier knowledge in the subject they are being taught.
Right now, I am currently not working in a teaching capacity. I view myself as a subject matter expert, as I have true experience regarding the topics that I teach. In regards to tutoring, I view this as actual teaching. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. To help students complete thier goals is the best feeling in the world.
I graduted in 2015 with a Bachelors degree in Crime, Law and Justice with an attatched minor in Social Welfare. During my studies, I succesfully completed internships at a courthouse and a non-profit orginization directed at helping the homeless population. After my graduation, I worked for the Department of Homeland Security and then the Department of Justice. During my time in the Department of Justice, I succesfully complete my Masters degree at Arizona State University, with a 4.0 GPA, in Sociology.

First, I get to know the student and allow time for the student to get to know me. After this is complete, I want to know what the students goals are and what he or she expects out of the tutoring sessions. I will then create a lesson plan that focuses on the desired goals of the student. After the plan is approved by the student, we will then work hard together to accomplish those desired goals.
My advice is to select those that share a passion of completing a mission and those that truly want to help the student succeed. Over time, you will be able to tell those that want to help you rather than those that want to collect a pay check.
The recent event that I am fond of is proposing to my love of my life. Besides hearing her say yes, I would say that completing my Masters degree is something that I am very fond of.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Nothing. Students should never have to think through any form of question before they say it. What they should do is ask any question that appears in their mind. A good tutor will take the time out of their day to answer any question a student has in order to make his/her learning experience a postive and succesful one.
