About Cowboy

Wyoming fly fishing is regarded by many as the last frontier of truly unexploited fly fishing opportunities in the lower 48. As the least populated state in union, only in Wyoming could a fishery like the North Platte River exist.

Anywhere else, the chance at true trophy trout over 10 pounds comes with the high price of elbow-to-elbow or bumper boat fishing. This is not the case when you're fly fishing in Wyoming. In fact, it's more common than not to float or wade a section of river and not see a single person fishing all day! This incredible combination of world class fly fishing, beautiful scenery, big blue skies & Wyoming hospitality is why our home on the banks of the North Platte is truly a bucket list fly fishing destination. As a Wyoming fly fishing guide service & lodging operation, we are committed to making every moment you spend fly fishing the North Platte one you don't forget! After an incredible day on the river, you can enjoy a Wyoming sunset in one of our luxurious riverfront cabins.

Fly Fishing in Wyoming is possible year round on the North Platte River! We offer guided float trips, wade fishing trips & our ever popular two handed spey trip! We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee on every fly fishing trip we guide in Wyoming!

Our guides Make The Difference...We are the hardest working fly fishing guides on the North Platte River. If we pass through a run that we know holds fish, we don't just keep going. We back row it and adjust our weight and depths until we start hitting fish. Once we start hitting fish, we don't coast. We fish the river hard from start to finish.

We love to teach and share our passion for fly fishing along with our wonderful resources! Come enjoy all we have to offer and learn the tricks of the trade from the Cowboy Drifters local guides who fish here daily, 365 days a year.

Owner and Guide Jason Hamrick has 23 years experience guiding fly fisherman on the North Platte River in Casper, Wyoming.  He has competed on the Tarpon Fly Fishing Championship circuit in the Florida Keys, and has a passion for salt water fly fishing.  Jason also spent many years as a high school Physical Education and Health Teacher and Coached a variety of sports.

With a love for teaching and the desire to give clients and students the best fishing experience of their life, we encourage those curious about fly fishing to come give it a try.  Jason personally hand picks and trains his guides in order to give the novice a successful and fun learning experience.

We provide all the gear necessary to learn the fundamentals of fly fishing.  We will teach you about the ecology and entemology of the river system which produces the food sources for our hungry trout.  We help you identify the proper flies to use based on water conditions, hatches, and season.  You will learn about different rod and reel options to used, based on the three major types of fly fishing: nymphing, dry fly, and streamer fishing. We will show you how to tie proper knots and how to adjust the length and weight based on river depths and flow.  Finally, we will teach you proper casting, mending, stripping and setting techniques to ensure solid hooksets and a higher success rate.  Of course, once we net your beast, we have to take pictures!
