About Duke
From playing as a junior through college and eventually as a professional I have had the passion and desire to teach. The last thirty plus years I have guided thousands of beginners, children (juniors) College players, mini tour and several playing professionals. I was fortunate enough to learn my craft by working under the watchful eyes of renowned teachers and to eventually assimilate that knowledge into an easy-to-understand process for players of all level that seek improvement.
Have a unique system with my students. I keep in touch with them after the lesson to make sure they understand, send them short lessons or drills and if necessary, supply a short video to explain. In short, we form a team and I get involved. I am not a teacher who just decided it is a way to make a quick dollar. This is my life's calling and I take it seriously. Have over 35 years teaching and learned from the best. Men, Women, Children all ages. Available 7 days per week. Will be out of town April 27 through May 3 to teach a class in Dallas.
Started teaching 45 years ago in Palm Springs. As my reputation expanded I ended up working at four other clubs in the desert, both private and public.

The first thing I always do is talk to students to determine their goals and what they are committed to do to achieve these goals. I answer any questions and then start on the basics to evaluate their current physical capabilities; at this point I offer a true evaluation of what I think it will take to achieve your goals.
Five-year-old children to Champions Tour players. I have diligently studied body movements, teaching so people understand ( from a psychologist/college dean) and competitive players. Enjoyed teaching several LPGA Players through the years. Was involved in the Dinah Shore Ladies PGA events.
To be open-minded to change. Students have a short memory, they forgot why they came to me. My advice has changed over the years, primarily because of you tube. I was on the range this morning practicing. On both sides of me, there was a golfer getting a lesson from someone who had no idea what they were doing. successful coaches teach "match-ups". which simply means your grip, stance, body movements, timing all must match. In a recent interview with tiger woods, he was asked, what would you recommend to the average golfer who is trying to get better. " He raised voice and said. "Stay the **** off of You Tube."Sorry for the expletive but that was my punctuation point.
Through a quirk of fate, I was in the right place at the right time (Disney World-Florida) when a group of players were injured in a car crash, and I knew the tournament director who called me right away in my hotel. He asked me to play, I said "sure" jokingly stating "I will only play with Tiger Woods" You guessed it! I show up on the first tee in the morning and it was Tiger. We had a lot in common because we were raised close, his first teacher John Anselmo, was my teacher. Great fun.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Use common sense. Because of "Trackman", a device to measure everything you do in the golf swing, teachers have developed a lot of technical terms. ( I found myself getting into that trap") Using those terms, many students don't like to question the technical terms for many reasons. So, the lesson continues and the student gets more confused as time goes on. I personally started going back forty years and using simple to understand terms and explanations. Many instructors do not understand that concept because the student does not want to embarrass themselves by asking.

Perfect! I would highly recommend Duke if you are needing help with your golf swing. Duke had me hitting my irons better just after 1 session. He has a ton of knowledge but can relay that information so even I can understand. you never feel rushed with Duke. He evaluates you and and gives you tremendous feedback. Again, if you are looking for golf coach I HIGHLY recommend Duke.

One of my neighbors told me that Duke is living near Sacramento in Lincoln. I LOVE Duke as my three children do. (and my husband) He taught us all how to play and my oldest who graduates in September from HS is being recruited to play golf. Not only do I admire his expertise, his demeanor and absolute dedication to his vocation is incredible. You cannot miss at this one. I was also shocked to see the price he is charging. In the desert. He is one of the highest paid teachers because of his popularity. (200.00 plus per lesson. LOL Lincoln is getting a deal!
There is a wide separation between my previous coach and Duke. It was so obvious after 15 minutes when Duke explained the "fundamental" changes he made and why it was not in my best interest. He made it so simple and my improvement was beyond my expectations. He knows his "stuff".
This is actually written by Duke. I am passing a text along from a novice golfer I started working with in November.
" Hi Duke, I have not seen you in a couple weeks because I have been traveling on business. I played in a company sponsored charity golf tournament and shot 88, my Best Yet! This man is 61 and only played golf about 20 times over the last 15 years. I am not sharing this because he shot 88, rather, this is a testimony to what golfers can do when they understand good fundamentals and do the assigned drill frequently and be diligent about fundamentals. I am so proud of him!!! Duke 760 399 2666I am an 19 year old and a freshman at a college in N. California. Had a lesson with Duke earlier this week. I can share with you that he is the real-deal. My Dad purchased lessons for me with a company that uses technology and while it is interesting, I see now why it is about the persons knowledge and not the computer. I highly recommend a golfer of any caliber to try him. His fees are very reasonable.
Duke called me and asked for a referral which I am glad to provide. What I liked about Duke is, he is not fixated on methods like most instructors are. They say the same basic thing to every golfer. Came to Duke as an 18 and after two series of lessons, I am now bordering between 9-10. Guess that speaks for itself Have Fun!
Duke was a long time fixture in the Palm Desert/Palm Springs area as a "go-to" guy when your having difficulty with your golf swing (who doesn't). I was so impressed by his methods, very basic and sound that produced the required result once I put in the work. He does not get caught up in the hi-tech methods that have everyone looking how they move every limb or finger. He makes it so simple. I encourage anyone that has issues or needs some short game help to contact Duke. You will not be sorry!
When Duke called me and asked me to provide him a reference because he is in a new area, I have no problem saying that Duke is a very savvy guy and understands how the mind messes with your learning efforts. He has good answers for everything. A really good guy and knowledgeable. Have sent him lots of business over the last ten years. Have him work on your short game, he is magic with that!
I know Duke very well. He has coached me for eight years. Always looked forward to his lessons. My husband gave me a set of lessons for Christmas in 2014. He took me from a raw beginner to ten handicap in nine months. Continued with him and now a single digit. His single best asset...he cares.
Duke taught me, my wife ( who is now a 7 handicap after a relatively short period of time.) He is a person of integrity and vast knowledge about the game. You will leave his lessons with homework and drills you can do to advance your progression. A very nice and friendly person.
Lots of experience and a smooth and friendly demeanor. Knows his trade and obviously understands the mental side of the game. Which is a real plus in my estimation!
