I begin by finding out any background information that will help me to meet the student's needs. It is important for me to know if there is an IEP or diagnosis of any learning challenges. I talk to the parent and the student to find out about what they are struggling with and what their expectations are for a tutor. From there, I will come up with a tutoring plan which may be assisting with homework, helping prepare for quizzes, or working on reading/writing skills.
