About Johanna
A mechanical engineer turned registered nurse with over 10 years of proven tutoring success.
The last 10+ years have taught me how to work with a variety of students. I am able to change and tailor my tutoring style depending on each person's needs, while still engaging and properly preparing the student for success.
I love to see students succeed. When I first attended college I almost failed out because I was never taught how to properly study. Learning how to study smarter, not harder, changed my life! And my grades. I went from being a C/D student to having a 4.0. Everything just clicked. And I was not wasting hours and hours studying the same concept. Instead, I learned how to use my strengths to succeed and properly prepare for each and every class.
I was asked by a professor to be a tutor while taking the class.
I have worked as a tutor since 2001. I have tutored in English, Maths, Biologies, Chemistries, A&P, Physics, Patho, mechanical engineering related, and nursing courses. I have also helped prepare students for the NCLEX and thus far each and every one of them has passed on the first try in 75 questions.

At our first meeting, I like to find out what the student thinks is going wrong as well as test some general knowledge. This will give me a baseline. I also like to find out how the student learns best and what will help them succeed. From there we will start to build a roadmap of how to study smarter, not harder.
I have worked with a variety, including students that speak English as a second language. Each student has ended up succeeding in their course and passing.
Find someone that works and teaches in a style that works for you! Not everyone meshes or can teach in a way that is conducive. It is so important to find someone that works with you, not for you.
Recently I helped a student finally pass the NCLEX after having failed 2 previous times! She swore she would never be able to pass. After 45 days of studying and working together 3 days a week, she passed in 75 questions.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Figure out where things are going wrong. Do you know the vocab to even be able to understand the material? Do you understand the basic concepts behind the material? If those are concrete, move forward and figure out if you are able to conceptualize and analyze those ideas. At that point, have the professor or teacher help to better understand the concept or idea.

My base rate is $35/hr. More advanced classes and test prep are $40/hr. I am happy to provide a free 15-minute meet and greet to allow us to ensure we mesh and I can provide the proper type of learning style.
