About Rachel
I am an experiential educator with a focus on practical skills. I have over a decade of experience developing supplemental curriculum and enjoy empowering my students in their personal enrichment and scademic/professional goals. I am here to help you not only learn a new skill but also to become a better learner.
Nothing is more rewarding for me as an educator than seeing my students reach a level of comfort in their subject matter that they feel confident to teach their new skills to others.
I started tutoring in my undergraduate studies and have continued to work in supplemental education ever since. Currently, I am a Program Coordinator for a nonprofit that focuses on food sovereignty and socio-economic development in Northwest Detroit. I have also been a ceramic artist for over a decade and enjoy hands-on multimedia projects.
I have an Honors MA in Religious Studies, as well as an Honors BA in Sociology. I am a ceramic artist, social worker, and farmsteader.

I meet with potential students via zoom for a 30 minute consultation to discuss interests, goals, timelines, logistics, and to answer any questions they may have about my services.
Throughout my career, I have taught a wide range of students. Much of my work has focused on K-12 students but I have also taught at the University level and currently coordinate intergenerational programming with students ranging from primary school to retirement.
Expertise in a field does not necessarily mean that someone is able to translate that knowledge as a teacher -- look for someone who has a proven track record as an educator, as well as experiental knowledge and expertise in the field you want to study.
I love bartering events like food swaps and seed/plant swaps, I even host these kinds of events for my local community.
