About Laurie
Sewing and quilting are dying arts. Because of mass manufacturing, many people believe it is just simpler to purchase ready-made items. But often we have a specific style or color in mind that we are unable to find.
Sewing opens up a world of choices, whether it be a blouse, a skirt, or a quilt. My goal is to make sewing fun for my clients. Creativity and new ideas are strongly encouraged. I have over 40 years sewing experiece making clothing, quilts, and also doing alterations and repairs. No question is too simple, and I am available by internet if my students have questions between lessons.
I can also provide help with alterations and repairs, as often we discard clothing that just needs a small and easy fix. Nothing we really love, be it a quilt or article of clothing, is too old to repair if it brings us joy.
I LOVE fabric. The feel, the smell, the possibilities of what a certain fabric could become. Sewing is my therapy. It relaxes me like nothing else, and there is the added bonus of creating something. I would love to help preserve this age old skill.
I also enjoy teaching, especially people when are interested and want to learn.
I needed some extra money, and wanted to do something I love.
I have been sewing since my teens. I learned to sew clothing in high school home economics class..years later I took a beginning quilting class and was hooked. Since then, I have taken numerous classes and workshops to learn various skills and techniques.

About the lesson

I like to first meet in a public place or chat on the phone, just to get to know my client a little and find out exactly what they want to learn. We will also set up a scheduled time for lessons.
Then I will teach 2-3 basic skills per lesson, which the student can then practice between lessons. At the beginning, I like to do hour and a half lessons if possible. (But that's flexible.). As students learn more, they usually drop back to the hour long lesson.
Beginners, intermediate and advanced. I can offer knowledge at all levels.

Details
Generally, I charge $45 for an hour long lesson, $65 for an hour and a half. The initial acquaintance meeting/telephone chat is not charged.
