About Katherine
Hello!
I'm Katherine (Kat), I am a voice teacher and professional singer in New York with 3 years of experience. I work with students of all levels, ages, and styles. I want to help you find your voice! I don't have a one size fits all technique or approach to singing, everyone's voice and learning style is different and deserves to be recognized. In your lesson, we will talk about, breath support, proper fold closure, interpretation, anatomy, and musicality. You will walk away from a lesson with exercises, stretches, and a practice plan. I love to help my students sing better, but you can do a lot for yourself with daily practice and I can help you find a plan that fits you. As a singer, I started when I was 14 and then went to college for a degree in vocal performance with a specialty in opera. I then pivoted into musical theatre and moved to New York. I have always wanted to be a singer and love what I do and want my students to find that joy for themselves. I have performed all over the US, in Italy, and before the pandemic, I was on an international tour in China. I would love to help you meet your goals as a singer so let's find a time to schedule your first lesson!

I started teaching in college because I wanted to help others build up their voices and work on being well-rounded performers.
I have 10 years of singing experience and a degree in vocal performance from The University of Texas in San Antonio. I have also performed off-broadway and on an international tour.

First, I would assess your range and vocal quality, then talk about your goals and what music you are working on. I will probably also assign you more music after this. Then we can work on music and I will give you notes on how to create a more consistent, full, and healthy sound. From there we can talk about performance aspects and effective storytelling.
I have worked with students of all ages and levels, from beginners learning their first solo to professionals trying to even out their sound and build more thoughtful and nuanced performances.
Make sure the teacher is helping you find your sound and that they are invested in you.
One of my students just received a huge audition and I am so incredibly proud of them. I also performed in my first live musical post covid. I also recently gave a concert for a theatre I worked at a few years ago over zoom and I recorded it in my parent's living room with my whole family there. It was very special. My grandfather had not heard me live in years and he got to tune in that night. Which meant a lot to both of us.

Yes, I typically charge $50 for a half-hour and $95 for a full. Most students prefer a full hour because we have more time to really dive in.
