About Shane
Shane Elks is the founder and Executive Director of Black Star Theater Company and the creator and former Director of the Creative Arts Department at the Cyzner Institute of Charlotte. Shane is an Interfaith Community Chaplain. His Private Practice is called Creating Frequencies. His services include Private Sessions in Voice, Piano, Acting, Creative Expression, and the Healing Arts.
Shane Elks is a Licensed Instructor and Curriculum Consultant for the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals. He is a graduate of CLI Seminary, The American Music and Dramatics Academy and The British Centre of Excellence. Shane has also studied with Vocal Masters from The Juilliard School of Music Advancement Program and The Metropolitan Opera Guild. His years as a performer in Musical Theatre, Jazz, and Opera has fueled his passion to share the performing arts with his community.
Shane has worked in the Expressive and Healing Arts as a Teacher and Therapist for over a decade. He has worked with clients in assisted living, rehabilitation, memory care, early childhood, primary, and advanced grades. Shane is passionate about using the arts to educate, engage, and entertain the community. His belief in person centered care drives his efforts as a practitioner and an educator.
Being a part of one’s artistic journey is an honor. I love helping people learn the power of what the arts hold and teaching them the proper tools to use their natural talents.

He is patient but pushes me to be the best I can be. He is always encouraging and has the best tips for the things I need to work on. He has helped me tremendously with my confidence, which was a major problem I had to begin with. He makes every lesson fun and honestly reminded me why I began and loved singing in the first place. He also makes me feel like I can do anything I want to if I work hard and stop being hard on myself 24/7. Working with him has been one of the best decisions ive made as an artist but also as a person because he has that much of an impact.
