About Zakiyyah
My voice studio is tailored to the individual needs of each singer I work with. Unlike many voice studios that focus solely on technique or learning repertoire, I utilize a whole approach that focuses on developing the student's artistic voice. This includes technique, performance, and when applicable--songwriting and professional development opportunities. I understand that each singer may have different needs and music plays a different role in all of our lives. Some singers seek to be professional singers while others just want to gain confidence and stop offending their friends during long car rides. My goal is to make sure that whatever your focus, these lessons can bring you as close to that goal as possible.
My favorite thing about teaching is watching students have their "aha" moments. My goal is to help students develop their voices so that they don't need me anymore.
I've been teaching voice through the Hamilton Garrett Music and Arts Academy, and decided to take on my own students in order to expand my reach.
I am trained in classical voice (New England Conservatory's Continuing Ed program) and speech-level singing used in contemporary styles such as R&B, pop, and musical theater.

I typically begin by getting to know the student, their goals and shape our lessons around those goals. My immediate attention is pointed towards what vocal challenges I can address right away, what methods of learning work better for them, and I adjust my lessons accordingly.
I've mainly worked with youth ranging from 8-16 years of age, but am open to working with older adults as well.

Zakiyyah is an absolutely amazing voice coach. She worked with my 8-year old daughter and she looked forward to being there with her every week. Zakiyyah is extremely patient, professional, and exciting to work with. She also happens to have the voice of an angel so she is able to inspire and challenge her students to be better and sound better. I highly recommend working with her and hiring her as your voice teacher. You will not be disappointed.
My experience was astonishing. From the vocal warm ups and breathe work Zakiyyah helped me on my breathing with many different techniques, allowing me to take home and practice on my own.
