About Mara
Playing the violin had been my dream ever since I was young. However, growing up in a single parent home made that dream seem so out of reach. Determined and unwilling to face defeat, I saved any kind of money I could to find, and bought my first violin at 13. I was a self-taught violinist for 4 years until I was accepted into Lake Forest College Music Program and played violin in Lake Forest Orchestra.
Given my background I consider myself an excellent choice for beginning players ( both children and adults). I'm familiar with mistakes, commonly seen with late beginner students, that will hender a player's ability to improve, (both physical and intonation wise). I can spot and understand those henderances (I've experienced them too as a late learner!) and can provide efficient advice and methods that will make your experience playing the violin not only fun but comfortable as well!

I usually look for what goals (if an adult) is looking to accomplish when choosing the violin as their instrument. I typically will have students playing from lesson, sp I can understand how their bodies reacted to holding the instrument. Though violin is a light weight instrument, hours of practice become strenous causing less motivation for the student. Once I learn the student natural approach towards the instrument I then try to convert them into proper form at their own pace.

I feel if you have any willingness to learn, practice and ask questions, you have everything you need to become a better player.

I want to make violin a fun and afforable experience. I simply charge $24/hour. If lessons exceed 90 minutes, I will charge an additional $24
