About Clete
I have been teaching violin for 60 years, and I teach students from beginners to very advanced. I also specialize in teaching adult students. I teach online (only) using Zoom, so it doesn't matter where you live. I teach a standard curriculum of materials.
I began to teach about four years after leaving college. I just wanted to help others learn the instrument I enjoy.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the University of Arizona in Tucson. I have also studied locally at the American Conservatory, Roosevelt University, and Northern Illinois University.

It depends on the student, as I teach students from beginners to advanced. With a beginner, I start them learning the proper way to hold the instrument and bow, and begin teaching them to read music. If the student has some experience on the instrument, I ask them to play something of their choice so I can assess their abilities, and let me know where to begin with them.
Everyone from raw beginners to very advanced students, and specializing in adults.
Pick a teacher who is interested in your progress, and not just in collecting your money. Pick a teacher that gives you a well rounded musical education in music theory, music history, and performance techniques as well as the basic education of playing the instrument well.
A ten year old student of mine just performed the J. S. Bach Concerto in A minor for violin, and did really well!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Well, first, are we talking about a child student, or an adult? The parent, or the adult student, should try to decide:
1. What is my goal in music?
2. Where does my interest lie in music? Classical, pops, folk?
3. Am I willing to practice (or help my child to) in order to meet my goal? Nothing in music comes free of work! The violin is a difficult instrument.
4. If you don't have an instrument, always rent for the first year. Never buy a small size instrument for a child, always rent. They will quickly grow out of it and need the next size up. Think "shoes"!

Clete is very easy to work with and does a good job of being patient with the student!
Mr. Clete is a very good violinist and a good teacher. My daughter really likes his way of teaching. He gives a lot of background information about music, violin, violinists and various types of music around the world. This helps my daughter interested in the class. He is also on time and is very patient.
My son had lessons with Mr. Clete. for approximately 10 years.
I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor in my sons life. I don’t believe there’s any better violin instructor than Mr. Clete.I have taken violin lessons from Mr. Davis for the past five years as an adult. Mr. Davis is knowledgeable about the violin, violinists and works of music for this instrument. His attitude is patient and supportive, and his teaching effective. He customizes the lessons according to my strengths. The amount of my weekly assignments is just right, never too much, with just one or two areas to focus on for improvement. I enjoy learning to play the violin from him.
Clete has been a really wonderful instructor. I work from home and have my own business so I prefer an instructor to come to me. He is very knowledgeable in not only teaching violin but the history and theory behind the instrument and music. Overall I feel that I am getting a very well rounded education in the convenience of my own home. Thank you Clete!
Clete is a wonderful teacher! My daughter and I have been learning with him for 3.5 years. When we started, neither of us had any musical training. He is patient, yet knows when to push us to be better. He does a wonderful job of integrating his vast knowledge of musical history into lessons, fostering an appreciation of the instrument. He is professional, always on time, and communicates well. I highly recommend Clete as a violin teacher!
Clete has a wonderful balance of practical and historical education. His attention to the student is exceptional. He brings kindness and understanding to every lesson.
Mr.Davis is an amazing mentor. I have been his student for more than a year or so, and I have learnt so much. He teaches you at your own pace and is always understanding about busy schedule. The tips that he gives are amazing and will always help you when you are playing violin. He understands a person's financial difficulties. I was guided since day one of my class on how to buy a violin and how to play one. I had zero skills and no idea of music reading, but Mr.Davis has taught me everything that I know.
Clete was a great teacher for my son. He catered every lesson to my son’s needs as a violinist, while at the same time giving him fun repertoire he enjoyed playing and practicing. Clete was also an invaluable asset when we were purchasing a new violin and now. His expertise in instruments and willingness to sit through several sessions of violin trials helped us make sure we got the right one.
Clete’s dedication to helping my son become a true musician is the reason my son got a full scholarship to college with his violin.During my Professional career as a first desk Violist and SA, I had the pleasure hearing Clete Davis play violin and recommend him.
