About Abigail
I am from Fairmont WV, and have earned both my BM and MM violin performance degrees from West Virginia University’s School of Music, where I studied under Dr. Mikylah Myers. I began playing the violin at 6 years old and continued private violin lessons all the way through graduation from highschool. Upon graduation,I knew music was what I wanted to pursue my degrees in. I love to share my passion for music and the violin through performing and teaching. I have taught a wide demographic and age range. My teaching philosophy is that even though music lessons should be structured, goal setting and educational, they still should be fun and enjoyed by all personalities and ages. I strive to provide a relaxed atmosphere, where students are encouraged to ask questions and learn from mistakes and exploring. I tailor each lesson specifically to each student’s personality and needs. I have taught for the Academy for the Arts Program at Fairmont State University , the Community Music Program at West Virginia University, and was former adjunct faculty at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Even if the student does not have a goal of continuing music as a profession, I believe that lessons on a musical instrument shapes the person as a contributing individual to society. Each person is able to experience beauty in creating. I love to share the ability to create sound with students, and support the evidence of the way music can aid in how we function in everyday life, as we are required to focus, create and explore.
I began teaching in high- school, because I wanted to share my love of music with others. Plus, I love to work with all ages, personalities and levels. There is never a dull moment!

I have worked with ages ranging from 5 all the way into the late 80's, with every thing in between. I have also given lessons to special needs children and adults.
