Experienced tutor who recently completed a PhD in theoretical physics at the University of Bath

I manage Luke in his role as a tutor for a HE academic outreach programme for A-level students. Luke is a subject expert and experienced tutor. He has led learning for A -level Physics students online, planned lessons and assessment; and provided constructive formative feedback to improve student attainment. He easily enthuses students about the subject and can explain abstract concepts effectively so that students can grasp and apply these concepts in different contexts.

Luke is a PhD student in my department . He always engages in departmental activities and is a valued member of our community. I've seen him demonstrate strong communication skills, clearly and effectively conveying his work in theoretical physics across various formats including through poster presentations, formal talks, and informal discussions. In addition to his academic contributions, Luke has played a key role in organising Pathway to Bath, an EDI initiative aimed at supporting Year 12 students from underrepresented backgrounds in accessing higher education. Given his dedication, clarity of communication, and commitment to widening participation, I believe that Luke would make an excellent tutor.
