About Debz

Hi, I’m Debz. I’m a former university lecturer and a current full-time PhD student in medicine, with extensive experience supporting students with academic writing across a range of degrees.

I hold a Master’s degree with Distinction from the University of Manchester and have a strong background in academic writing, critical analysis, communication skills and sociology. I genuinely enjoy essay writing and helping students understand how to express their ideas clearly, logically and at the level their course needs.

Academic writing often feels like a different language, especially when expectations aren’t made explicit. My role is to help you understand what markers are looking for, strengthen your structure and argument, and build confidence in your own writing style. Eventually, you will have the confidence to not need me!

I’ve supported many undergraduate and postgraduate students to achieve strong results, including successful undergraduate and master’s dissertations. My approach is calm, practical and supportive, particularly for students who feel stuck, anxious or unsure where to start.

About the lesson

My lessons are supportive, flexible and tailored to your individual needs. We’ll focus on the areas you find most challenging and work through them step by step, so academic writing feels clearer and more manageable.

Rather than simply proofreading, I provide detailed feedback and academic coaching. This includes breaking down assignment briefs, improving structure and flow, strengthening argument and critical analysis, and helping you understand how to meet marking criteria. If you’re unsure where to start, we’ll create a clear plan so you know exactly what to focus on.

Undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations

My aim is to make academic writing feel less overwhelming, particularly for students who feel stuck, anxious, or unsure how to move their work to a higher level.
