About Emily
I grew up playing the violin, and later the viola, and I have always loved sharing that passion with others. Teaching is where I feel most comfortable, and I love it when students have a lightbulb moment during my lessons. My goal is to provide equitable educational experiences to learners of all ages and learning abilities. When I am not teaching lessons, I am tending to my garden or crocheting cozy things in the winter.

My approach to teaching is student-centered, supportive, and tailored to each individual's goals and learning style. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and are encouraged to progress at their own pace while still being challenged to grow.
A typical lesson includes warm-ups and technique exercises, review of previously learned material, introduction of new concepts or repertoire, and time to practice skills with guidance and feedback. Lessons focus on building strong fundamentals, including posture, bow hold, intonation, rhythm, music reading, and musical expression.
What sets me apart is my combination of 14 years of violin experience and 3 years of teaching experience working with children and young learners. As an educator, I understand that every student learns differently, and I adapt my instruction to meet their individual needs. My goal is not only to help students improve their violin skills but also to build confidence, independence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
Lessons are ideal for beginner and intermediate students of all ages, including children, teens, and adults. I offer both virtual lessons and in-person instruction, including travel to students' homes when appropriate.
