Expert Italian Tutor based in Glasgow with 7 years of experience and a PhD in Italian studies

Methodology

My classes are based on a friendly approach, tailored to the needs of every student. In my career I had the chance to teach to students from all walks of life. I am reliable, affable and very passionate about my job.

Experience

Here we are, I am Guglielmo but, here in Scotland, everybody calls me Wullie. I am an expert and enthusiastic Italian tutor, I have taught - and I still teach - Italian classes to different types of students (university students, older learners and preteen pupils). Moreover, I have taught seminars on Italian literature, cinema and theatre. I have been awarded a PhD in Italian Studies by the University of Glasgow and I wrote a thesis that dealt with youth culture in 1950s Italy and its relationship with political parties of the time. My teaching style is based on a friendly and warm approach tailored to the needs of my students. I am an optimistic and happy human being who believes in the value of sharing culture and passions. In my free time I DJ for several venues in Glasgow, I play in a band, I read and I listen to a lot of music.

Guglielmo's CV

Jan 2019 – present
• I am a part-time Italian tutor in Social Care Homes around Glasgow for a project organised by Lingo Flamingo School. I teach basic Italian to older learners with dementia. This gives me the chance to work with people with life-changing conditions and the opportunity to build rapports with such people. Working in an environment like this enhances my ability to develop specific projects and teaching methods targeted at people with dementia. Organisation is one of the most important elements in this respect.

Sep 2018 – present
• I am a teacher of Italian classes to students of different ages at The Language Hub, Partick. I teach grammar and language classes to beginners and advanced students and I hold conversation classes as well. This experience gives me the chance to relate to people with different abilities and social backgrounds.

Sep 2018 – April 2018
• I have been a part-time Italian teaching assistant at St. Aloysius' College, Glasgow. I teach to a range of students that encompasses both pre-teen and teen pupils. Through this experience I have developed my already present penchant for teaching to younger learners, having the chance of tailoring my teaching to the needs of younger students while establishing a friendly and warm relationship with them.

Through this activity I have enhanced my ability of tailoring my teaching skills to the expectations and abilities of very young pupils.

Sep 2013 – 2017
• Italian tutor for honour students at Glasgow University. My classes are based on the analysis of the use of language in Italian popular culture artefacts such as newspapers and magazine articles, videos and other media. Excellent teaching and interpersonal skills developed through a constant dialogue with young students from different multicultural backgrounds. The feedback received was highly positive.

EDUCATION

2012/ 2013 – 2016/ 2017
• PhD in Italian Studies at the University of Glasgow, School of Modern Languages and Culture. My research is an investigation on youth culture in Italy between the late 1950s and early 1960s. Its aim is to examine the role of young people in shaping Italy’s identity and image.

2004/2005 - 2007/2008
• Ba in Letteratura Musica e Spettacolo (Italian Literature, Music and Performing arts) by the Liberal-Arts College of La Sapienza in Rome. My graduation thesis dealt with W.M. Thackeray’s “The Luck of Barry Lyndon” and its cinematic adaptation by Stanley Kubrick.
