I have more experience teaching beginners or intermediate and like to adapt my lessons for each individual student, for example by teaching by ear or with the use of written notation depending on what suits the student, but bearing in mind that both are important.
I often find that the best approaches for faster progress involve good communication, trust and plenty of patience from both sides as well as a good dose of encouragement!
For beginners or wherever suitable I normally begin by establishing or reinforcing a good grasp of the basic fundamentals and technique, familiarising them with the instrument and providing a strong basis for further improvement before the learning of more advanced repertoire and concepts.
I am a fiddle player who as been playing in and even hosting sessions and performing gigs in many venues on the Isle of Skye as well as a bit of teaching on the side. I am now moving to Glasgow and looking to teach there after completing studies at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton and the music school of Douglas Academy in Milngavie.
I have been playing the music since the age of 6 when I started playing Violin and Clarinet at the Conservatoire de Rouen in Normandy, France. I entered a music school when I was 7 and started playing the Piano. When I was 10, I entered a world traditional music ensemble and started playing the fiddle (as opposed to violin). When I was 13 I developped a great interest for Scottish Trad Music and since then it has become my passion and what I aim to do for a living. When I was 15 I moved to Scotland to pursue this passion and got into the Music School of Douglas Academy. I then applied to Sgoil Chiuil Na Gaidhealtachd, the Traditional Music School in Plockton (near the Isle of Skye) on fiddle to specialise even more in Traditional music. Since going to that School I have formed a band called Turadh and we have been playing gigs in pubs and venues around the Isle of Skye as well as the Eden Festival in Dumfries.
I have Grade 8 Clarinet with Distinction as well as the equivalent French qualification (BEM) in Clarinet, Piano and Theory. I was taught Fiddle by Ross Couper (Fiddler in the Peatbog Faeries) as well as Iain MacFarlane (Fiddle Tutor at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music and Former Fiddler in Blazin' Fiddles).
‘Anna introduced our seven year-old daughter to traditional fiddle in a relaxed and fun environment. Initially her approach was to teach her by ear, which our daughter, under her tutelage, picked up very quickly. Then followed up with notation. Sadly for us Anna moved to Glasgow but that is great news for anyone of any age wishing to learn fiddle. She provided a highly workable foundation for our daughter to continue her fiddle studies through the school system. I thoroughly recommend Anna Scott for music tuition.
“Learning fiddle with Anna was great. She is kind and clever”.
