Currently a final year university student with the hopes of continuing on to do a PhD. Very passionate about education and wider communication in science. Have had some experience teaching and tutoring and really enjoy helping people learn. I want to be able to engage with potential students and find out how they learn best and will try and tailor my tutoring accordingly. Whether it's basic help or more in depth help before an exam I will aim to be as helpful as possible. I am flexible on the times I will be available and will do my best to fit around your schedule. I am also willing to in my own time, mark practice questions if you find that helps you with revision. I will also make up example questions and answers for you to keep along with other resources and handouts. Thanks for reading and I hope to be able to help you learn all about the wonderful world of chemistry soon!
I have always enjoyed helping people learn, even when I was in high school i helped a friend go from failing their chemistry exam to gaining a B in higher chemistry. I was training to be a teacher when I realised that large scale teaching was not for me, although i still enjoying teaching one to one and still gained valuable experience teaching classes. I have had experience tutoring and felt that it was really beneficial to the student. I have also had experience preparing material and handouts.
I am a self-motivated, keen and willing to learn university student with an aptitude in a variety of subjects. Currently studying towards Applied Chemistry BSc (Hons) degree at Strathclyde University and predicted to gain a 1st. Able to work on own initiative or as part of a team, with a good positive attitude. Passionate about science with a particular interest in environmental chemistry.
2013-2016 University of Strathclyde
I am working towards an Honours degree in chemistry with a forward prediction of a 1st. I have studied various aspects of inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry. Throughout first to third year at university I worked in various laboratories and gained certificates for excellence in labs, showing dedication, hard work and ability to work to strict deadlines. While also providing me with the skills to work safely in a laboratory environment. In my final year I completed a literature review thesis in my final year and gained experience in time management, research, reading, and presentation skills. I gained 64% in my thesis and 82% for my presentation. Areas covered throughout the degree included various aspects of analytical chemistry such as separation and spectroscopy techniques. Throughout 1st to 3rd year the classes included core organic, inorganic and physical chemistry along with classes in analytical chemistry. During final year the classes branched off into core (such as organic, nanochemistry, environmental, and cage and clusters) and specialisation (such as molecular catalysis, polymer synthesis, advanced methods in organic synthesis and molecular driving forces in bionanotechnology). These classes have given a broad depth of knowledge and understanding and provided great insight into more areas of chemistry. During first to third year I passed each year with distinction. Alongside all these scientific classes I have undertaken various transferrable skills classes throughout my time at university which helped me to improve my presenting, scientific writing and group working while also providing me with strict deadlines to work towards. In my final year I also took part in and passes a careers skills class which further helped me improve myself as a student and person. A current practical project I am currently involved in involves preparing materials and experiments in the area of microplastics that could potentially be used in high school classes. This project has provided me with a chance to show my ability to work both independently and part of a group and has also let me put forward my own ideas and expand on them.
