About Hayley
I’m a final year PhD candidate and a qualified tutor, with more than five years of experience helping pupils hone their English literature and language skills. First in Edinburgh—where I completed my MA Hons in English Literature and History in 2016—and then in Hong Kong, I have worked with secondary and undergraduate-level students to improve their reading comprehension, as well as creative and academic writing. Having returned to Scotland to begin my PGDE in Secondary English, I’m excited to be accepting new students in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders!
Qualifications:
The University of Hong Kong - PhD in History (thesis submitted, awaiting viva voce examination), 2023.
The University of Oxford - MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies, 2018
The University of Edinburgh - MA Hons English Literature and History (1st Class), 2016

As a tutor, I have worked with students preparing for Scottish Higher, IELTS/TOEFL, and US SAT/AP examinations, as well as those hoping to improve their general knowledge and ability in English subjects. In all cases, I believe that the best approach is a personal one, which is tailored to a student’s needs, interests, and strengths. I am happy to structure sessions around topics covered in classes or to create a personalised curriculum to help students meet their goals!
