About Jess
I am a BSc Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry graduate from Newcastle University. I achieved a First Class Honours degree, an A* at A Level and a Grade 9 in GCSE Chemistry.
Alongside my degree, I completed a teaching internship through SCITT where I observed experienced science teachers and assisted students in answering past paper questions. I learnt how to effectively plan lessons and the importance of adapting lessons based on different abilities. I also worked as a Student Ambassador at University where I promoted chemistry to potential future students, as well as engaging in STEM outreach activities which involved demonstrating science experiments to young children.
My aim is to help students move beyond simply learning chemistry for exams and to develop a genuine understanding of the subject. Once the fundamentals are understood, chemistry becomes much more intuitive and enjoyable.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s individual needs and focus on building both understanding and confidence. I like to break down challenging topics into simpler explanations before building understanding, then use active recall to reinforce learning. This knowledge is then applied through exam-style questions to consolidate understanding, improve exam technique and identify topics that require further practice.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although this can be adapted to suit individual needs. I aim to create a friendly and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as they learn.
