About Ruby
I'm Ruby, a First-class Modern Languages graduate from Durham with a genuine, longstanding love of teaching, from leading university study groups to tutoring GCSE Spanish students.
I grew up in London before moving to Dorset and Somerset, and I've always cared deeply about the world around me; during university, I took a keen interest in nature and worked with environmental charities.
After Durham, I pursued a career in due diligence consulting, where I noticed many of my projects were in fintech, before moving into core banking and payments, a career that has sharpened my attention to detail and rigour. I'm now leaving that role to pursue a Master's degree, giving me the flexibility to return to something I've always been passionate about: teaching.
Outside of my career, I love spending time with friends at the theatre and on hiking trips, and living in Finsbury Park with three close friends from university. I also have a particular love of nature and tropical climates, and was lucky enough to live in Argentina during my year abroad at Durham, an experience that deepened my love of languages and gave me a genuine connection to Spanish beyond the classroom. Alongside this, I studied a lot of literature at school and university, developing a particular interest in Argentine writers who explore complex philosophical ideas.
I bring the same curiosity and care to tutoring that I bring to everything else I do, and I'd love to help you or your child build confidence and genuine enjoyment in learning.

My approach starts with listening. In our first session, we'll spend time discussing your specific goals - whether that's aiming for full marks in a GCSE or A Level exam, preparing for a university written or oral exam, or simply building confidence with fundamental grammar and conversation. From there, we build a tailored plan spanning the coming weeks or months, with extra reading set between sessions to reinforce progress.
For example, with a GCSE student, we'd first identify the exam board, assess current level, and map out the time available before agreeing a realistic, achievable goal together.
I bring experience leading study groups throughout my degree at Durham, working closely with fellow students on essay structure and written work, and tutoring GCSE Spanish during my A Levels. Lessons typically run 1-2 hours weekly and suit any age or level, from GCSE and A Level through to adult learners.
