BETH KING

Professional Profile
I have graduated this summer (2018) with a First Class Honours Degree in BA English and Drama from the University of Exeter.

I pride myself on being an outgoing, hardworking, ambitious person who is confident working as an individual and within a team. I would relish the opportunity to work in the creative industry alongside other like-minded individuals who have a passion for both the Arts and helping others.

Experience
July 2017: Musical Director for Shotgun Theatre production of ‘Godspell’ during a 3 week run at Edinburgh Fringe
MDing ‘Godspell’ was a demanding role: helping cast the show, conducting a band of 5 whilst playing keys, organising rehearsals, teaching songs and coaching vocals to the cast whilst contributing to promoting the show whilst in Edinburgh with daily flyering and busking. To spend a prolonged period of time in that creative environment, network with industry professionals and perform professional platform at the Greenside Nicholson Square theatre, was invaluable.

July 2014-August 2016: Writer/Director/Producer of ‘The Shot Heard ‘Round the World’
I co-wrote, directed and produced a new musical, ‘The Shot Heard ‘Round the World’ which we premiered locally in 2014 and then took up Edinburgh Fringe two years later. This included booking the venue, designing the poster, fundraising, publicising the show whilst managing a cast of 20. I learnt essential qualities of leadership, motivation, as well as patience and understanding.

July 2013: Payne’s Hicks Beach
Work experience with solicitors’ firm in London showing me the fundamental workings of a law firm. I got the opportunity to interact with lawyers working in the intense environment and gained skills in organisation, time management and how to work under pressure.

Employment History
July 2014-present: Bar/Restaurant supervisor at the Woolpack Burgess Hill
Across the last 3 years I have worked both part and full time as a supervisor of the bar and restaurant, managing other staff, dealing with customers and coping with multiple tasks at once in a fast paced environment.

July 2015-Present: Online Student Tutoring
I have over the years done a lot of online tutoring with OPE Asia and taught English both internationally in Bali and Uganda.

My responsibilities included organising and running open days, hosting socials and organising the Leavers Ball which was a huge event and took an enormous amount of planning. The role also enhanced my organisation and prioritisation skills.

Volunteering
Community Volunteering
For four years I volunteered every Friday evening at the local village’s youth club as a Young Leader, working with children and other adults. I ran activities for the kids and led mentor groups to help with any individual problems.
I took part in two Charity trips to Kabubbu in Uganda upon which I worked in the community on teaching and building projects and both times found it invaluable. I also spent a week helping on outreach in Valencia with Freedom Libertad, a charity supporting trafficked women who work on the street.
