About Ella

Ella Dorman-Gajic is an award-winning scriptwriter and published playwright. Her 5-star play TRADE first premiered at Omnibus Theatre, supported by Arts Council England, where it was awarded an OffComm. It went on a UK tour in 2023, starting with a sell-out success at The Pleasance, and finishing with another sell-out show at Norwich Arts Centre. The tour achieved solely 4 and 5-star reviews. TRADE is published with Salamander Street. TRADE was shortlisted for the 2020 Snoo Wilson Award and longlisted for the Papatango Award. Her play DIVIDED was longlisted for the Theatre503 International Playwriting Award.
As a screenwriter, she won Best Screenplay at the Healdsburg International Film Awards (judged by Tom Waits) for her debut short film, BACK OF THE NET, which stars Emmy-nominee Tom Goodman-Hill, and is Executive Produced by Declan Lowney (director of Ted Lasso). The film is currently in the festival circuit, having picked up 7 awards. Ella is represented by Macfarlane Chard as a scriptwriter.
Ella is also a creative facilitator and tutor. She was a professional mentor for the University of Westminster’s SoH New Writing Festival and is currently the workshop leader for Broken Silence Theatre’s Playwright’s Hive. She runs her own writing group, JUST WRITE IT, in Deptford. She offers 1-2-1 mentoring on scripts and dramaturgical script reports.
Ella holds a First Class degree in Scriptwriting & Performance from UEA, UK’s leading University for creative writing. She is an alumn of the National Youth Theatre, New Writing South’s Young Writers, Apples & Snakes Writing Room and Roundhouse Poetry Collective. She was Broken Silence Theatre’s first Writer in Residence, and she was one of Bathway Theatre’s Associate Artists.
