About Karl
My name is Karl, I live in Devon, and studied Spanish at the University of Exeter, graduating with a first and a distinction in spoken Spanish. I've long been inspired by Spanish because of friends, places to visit, amazing Spanish literature which I'd be happy to recommend to you (or even use during our classes!), and much more. I have taken part in several mentoring programmes teaching students in years below me both at my school and university, and continue to have many fruitful language exchanges with speakers of Spanish and other languages, testing the language-learning process on myself and refining my understanding of how to help other people learn. I have also volunteered teaching English to Ukrainians in Exeter and Torquay, having learned Ukrainian to further help me with this. I enjoy going to intercultural events, as well as reading about geography and history and am always happy when I can find the time to learn some simple classical pieces on piano. I look forward to meeting you and engaging with our interests as we go through the learning process.

What is it that inspires you to learn Spanish? Are you a student who has chosen Spanish as a subject and wants to travel across Latin America? Perhaps your business has connections with Spain or you simply want to engage with the lively social aspect of talking to Spanish speakers. Whatever the case may be, the main focus of my classes is to strengthen your knowledge of and connection with Spanish via what inspires you, but I will also support you to make sure that you're able to strengthen your weak points. I will encourage you to speak Spanish as much as possible, and to talk about your interests and about cultural aspects of the 20 different Spanish-speaking countries, so that Spanish stops feeling so much like a foreign language, but rather more like a natural part of your life. I want to know what helps you to learn the most, whether that's discussions, reading articles or fiction, watching Spanish content and music, or most likely a combination of the above. If for example you don't enjoy learning grammar, then I will integrate it into what we're learning, rather than having it as a separate topic, so that the learning suits you. Classes with me are normally an hour long, but I'm very happy to discuss other arrangements. I look forward to sharing this passion with you and inspiring you on your journey!

Perfect! The clarity of his teaching and his methodology....simple approach to conversational practice and variety of mediums, written, relaying, Q&A. Put me at ease when trying to speak in Spanish.
