About Eliot
I have a First Class degree from UCL and won the Hobbes Prize for achieving the best dissertation in my year. I have planned and led revision schemes and cover lessons for classes of up to thirty. Lessons are punctual, professionally prepared, and available across London/Welwyn Garden City or online with all materials and detailed feedback supplied after each session. I've written poetry and prose since a child, and have a genuine love for English. Lessons are actionable but also deft -- I aim to show how writers borrow from each other, how works reference other works, to give a glimpse of the wider contexture that builds up the literature community. The greatest way to make work easy is to not see it as work; let's love English together.

Lessons start with a short diagnostic (usually an unseen passage) to locate precise gaps, then proceed by breaking skills into discrete modules (SPEED: Signpost, Point, Evidence, Explain, and Develop) and applying modelling plus deliberate practice. I build exemplar paragraphs live, have the student rewrite to internalise structure, then run timed past-paper practice under exam conditions. I show the mark scheme to the student so answers are tailored to exam boards. Typical lesson lengths: 30 min (micro-skill clinic), 45 min (GCSE), 60 min (A-level), 90 min (walking talking mock). Time is flexible -- these are more minimums. I hold a BA English Literature (First Class, UCL; Hobbes Prize) and classroom tutoring experience at Stepney All Saints School (Jan–Jun 2024). There is over 1200 years of English Literature, evidently, some people have found it enjoyable. I hope that some of this enthusiasm will be passed down in our sessions.
