Former American Primary Teacher in Tayside Offering Primary English and Maths Tutoring

Methodology

As a teacher, I like to evaluate the starting point of each student and craft a series of tasks which will allow the student to reach their goals in measurable steps. I prefer to craft experiences that are relatable and topical wherever possible and measurable in quality.

Experience

Before moving to the UK, I taught kindergarten through eighth grade (ages 5-14) in Illinois and Arizona over the last 5 years. I have experience teaching early literacy, grammar, literature, English as a Second Language, geography, mathematics, and science. My experience in teaching science is further solidified by my experience working at both the Arizona Science Center and the Dundee Science Centre providing science experiences to children from nursery to secondary level. I thrive on creating exciting, relatable experiences for students of all ages and look forward to helping your student to succeed.

During this experience, I created novel studies, encouraged high level discussion through the use of Literature Circles, devised a poetry unit which resulted in a presentation of a Poetry Coffeehouse for all seventh grade, ran the Yearbook Club, and collaborated with grade level staff as well as subject area teachers across grade levels to ensure high standards of rigor throughout the school. I finished off my experience at U of I with a 3.74 overall.

Interests:
Creativity: I have always enjoyed music and the arts, and recently, I have even been fortunate enough to work in film. This creativity also translates into my professional career in creating engaging and exciting activities and experiences for my students.
Travel: I enjoy traveling and gaining new experiences in places I never would have thought to look. I have traveled around parts of my own home country, and I look forward to exploring the UK and anywhere else life may take me.
STEM: I love teaching STEM related subjects to students. Giving them skills to be able to succeed both independently and in a group is very satisfying, and pushing them to do things they never thought they could do is incredible.

Skills:
Computing: I have basic computer skills such as word processing, Excel spreadsheets, Google Docs, and other basic functions; however, I also have limited experience coding and can learn very quickly. Furthermore, I am skilled in social media and can use them both professionally and personally.
Languages: English is my first language; however, I am fairly skilled in Spanish as well. I earned a Spanish concentration in college and worked in schools where Spanish was the first language of most of my students for four years.
Music: I played the clarinet for 11 years and can read and write music as well as use it creatively in projects.
Driving: I have a full clean driver’s license in the state of Arizona, which can easily be transferred wherever I need to go.
Classroom Management: I have more than five years’ experience managing classrooms and students and have been told by my coworkers at the Arizona Science Center that my skills have been very valuable to both my coworkers and the children with whom I work.
Acting: Not only has my acting experience been helpful for film and stage; I utilize it in every job. Even if I am not completely confident, I can come off as very competent in order to solve any problem I encounter.
