About Yan
I'm a former Division 1 tennis player and full-time coach based in Chicago with over 1,000 hours of coaching logged in the past year alone. I work with players of all levels - from complete beginners picking up a racket for the first time to competitive players preparing for tournaments.
My coaching is built around one thing: real, visible improvement. I focus on fundamentals, footwork, and match-ready technique - not just hitting balls back and forth. Every session has a purpose.
I've worked with 100+ students across Chicago, coaching outdoors at Grant Park and Skinner Park. I have 25+ five-star reviews on PlayYourCourt and Thumbtack, and my students consistently come back season after season - which I'm most proud of.

My lessons are fully personalized based on each player's level, goals, and learning style - beginners building fundamentals, recreational players improving consistency, and competitive players focused on match performance.
A typical session covers technical work (strokes, footwork, serve), situational drills, and live point play. I focus on the details most coaches overlook - timing, spacing, shot selection, and decision-making under pressure.
Sessions are available in 1hr, 1.5hr, and 2hr formats at Grant Park and Skinner Park. Training packages are available for students committed to long-term improvement.

Perfect! Yan is a really good coach. You can tell he’s very knowledgeable about knowing how to coach. I will keep coming back to him
Perfect! I had my first lesson with Yan as a complete beginner, and it was a really great experience. He was very patient and made sure I felt comfortable from the start. He explained the basics clearly and broke things down in a way that was easy to follow. I never felt rushed or overwhelmed, which I really appreciated as someone new to tennis.
Yan also provided helpful feedback throughout the lesson and adjusted the pace according to my progress. - Dahne is a really hardworking student and always brings a great attitude to the court. She has a natural touch and feel for the ball, which makes her game fun to watch and gives her a strong base to build on. I’ve been training with Yan and he’s a really good coach. He’s very professional but also really attentive to details.
