About Adena
I am a former ESL/EFL teacher with two years of practical experience.
I started my career by completing a TQUK Level 5 certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language with the International TEFL Academy. This included 180 hours of coursework and 20 hours of practicum which I fulfilled through 1-on-1 tutoring of refugee students through San Diego Refugee tutoring.
After obtaining my certificate, I moved from San Diego to Cambodia where I spent a year and a half teaching English to students aged 5-10. I've worked at two different schools, teaching 4+ hours a day in classrooms of 20-26 students. Between my classes, I also helped to develop the first functional curriculum for one of the schools. In addition to this, I pursued professional development and completed a course on teaching for high-impact student learning.

I teach English to primary aged students (both native and non-native speakers) with lesson plans structured around the four basic language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. I believe in catering to the individual learning style of the student and will do my best to adapt the lesson plans in a way that is efficient, engaging, and encourages the highest level of retention.
