About John
I was a maths kid at school. Maths was my hobby and I did my own work in class. I do not own a TV. My life revolves around maths, science, learning foreign languages, bikes and playing guitar. I play professionally in a band. I studied chemical physics as an undergrad, did a PGCE, taught maths and science for a few years. Then I did an MSC in MRI and NMR followed by a PhD in NMR. During my PhD. I helped my supervisor with his classes. I liked it so much that I took a permanent job doing it. So now during the day I teach in university laboratories and also teach in maths workshops. As a member of university staff, I am forbidden from doing any students' assignments that are marked. Random facts about me: I love big leaves and have a 3 m diameter palm tree in my living room. I do maths for fun. I remove frogs from the road. I can play a huge array of stuff on guitar. My French is fluent. I am conversant in German and Tagalog. I like creepy crawlies. I have never deliberately killed a spider since I was a kid. I remember that day well. I stuck to my promise.

I would be willing to travel to your location for face to face lessons. I think online lessons are not so good as face to face lessons. The only thing I need is a cup of tea or coffee. I drink gallons of the stuff. I could simply tell you how to do the subjects but hey ! ... Who wants a lecture? What I prefer to do is lead you, by questioning, to progress step at a time, to get the answer for yourself. That way you do as much thinking as possible. You will discover where the equation of a circle comes from and how you get cos(A+B) = cosA.cosB - SinA.Sin B etc. We can design a lift, duck pond or a hydro station and shoe horn a lot of the course into it. Duck ponds are great for practising Nat 5 maths ! Now, although I prefer face to face tuition, I do encourage students to send me their answers to questions midweek by internet and I will provide feedback or solutions. I will also help with your questions on the spot. Surprise me.
