About Brandy
I taught high school physics at all levels, from Conceptual through AP Physics B, in public and private schools in Connecticut and Ohio from 2004 through 2014. I attained my Bachelor of Science in Astronomy & Physics from Yale University in 2003, completed the now-defunct Yale Teacher Preparation Program in 2004, and earned my Master of Natural Science in Physics from Arizona State University in 2012. My master's program focused on physics education, and my Action Research project studied the necessity of students developing conceptual understanding before becoming proficient quantitative problem solvers. I entered corporate America in 2014 and have been tutoring privately since then, and as an independent contractor for PrepNow since 2015. My tutoring assignments have included AP Physics C and introductory calculus-based college physics in addition to SAT Physics test preparation and algebra-based courses for high school and college.

My teaching methodology focuses on developing students' conceptual understanding of physics through the use of diagrams, pictures, and graphs as the foundation for effective quantitative problem-solving. I bring in real-life situations in which they already experience the physical phenomena we're studying and can observe them playing out. I aim to help my students come to see physics equations as relationships between measurable variables and as the quantitative expressions and models of the conceptual relationships at hand. Whenever possible, I like to present students with multiple routes for solving problems so they can choose the one that makes the most sense to them.

Details
Online packages are $35/hr for 5 sessions and $30/hr for 10 sessions. Single sessions can be rescheduled one time following a cancellation. Rescheduling is subject to availability. Cancellations prior to 24 hrs ahead of the scheduled session time incur no penalty. Packages allow one cancellation within 24 hrs without penalty; each additional cancellation within 24 hrs deducts one session from the number remaining in the package. All package sessions must be used within 90 days of purchase; there are no refunds for unused sessions.
