About John
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religious Studies, a Bachelor of Education, with a focus on language instruction, a Master of Education and a PhD in Educational Studies. Prior to my career as a university professor and teacher educator, I worked for over two decades as an elementary teacher working with students from age ten through fourteen. My primary focus in my second career teaching adults who had already completed at least one undergraduate degree was instructing future teachers in the practice of teaching language arts. I am also a poet, a published author and a story teller.

Whether you simply want to practice your English speaking skills, or work at writing essays, stories, letters or poetry, having someone to guide and support you on your language journey is important. My approach to education is to first assess what skills students have, because we all have skills though we may not be aware of them nor of how those skills can help us as we move forward. Together we then develop plans and set goals for learning. In my four decades of work in formal educational settings, I always held the belief that every learner is unique, so every learning opportunity needs to make space for that uniqueness. That belief continues to be a part of my educational philosophy which informs my practice.
