I am a professional violinist working in London and Manchester. After 17 years playing with the Halle Orchestra, I now freelance with with the major orchestras and appear regularly as a guest leader.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach violin and music theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
My professional qualifications are FTCL (Fellowship of Trinity College London) and LTCL (Licentiate of Trinity College London).
- How much do you charge?
Beginners and Intermediate lessons are £30 per hour. Advanced regular lessons for students of a standard of Grade 7, 8 or above are also £30 per hour. One-off consultations are £45 per hour for students of up to Grade 8 standard and £55 per hour for all other violinists.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from home and as I'm based in Gatley, this allows easy travel for my students from Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire. I will travel to students if required, but a higher fee is charged depending on the travel time & distance.
- When are you available?
I am usually available to teach from 11:00am to 8:00pm, Monday to Friday. Weekend lessons can also be arranged.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am happy to teach all ages from young children to adult and all levels from beginners to advanced.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for all ABRSM grade exams, ABRSM advanced certificates and all the major music college diplomas. I also prepare students for Trinity Grade Exams.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Learning an instrument MUST be fun but it also takes a lot of hard work. I will always give my best and expect my students to practice regularly and give their best back during lessons.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching all my professional career at all levels including Grade 8 and Diploma level. I also give casual lessons to prepare students for college and orchestral auditions.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained in London at Trinity College of Music. My violin professors were the soloist and orchestral leader Eric Gruenburg & his wife, Korshed Gruenburg.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Musicians' Union.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
At the moment my students range from age 7 beginners, age 10 intermediate students to adult students of all levels. My star pupil for 2014 is an adult beginner who has reach a grade 3 standard in less than a year... well done Julie D, I'm very proud of you.
