About Robert
Hello - I’m Robert. I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2018 with a 2:1 degree in French and English. During my studies, I tutored French and English Literature to high school students in the UK. I also spent a year teaching English as a second language to pupils aged between 11 and 18 in France. After university, I trained to be a journalist and spent six years working at national and regional publications in the UK and Spain. In 2023, my social affairs reporting was nominated for a national award by Rozina Breen, CEO of the Bureau of Investigative Journalism. Since May 2025, I have been tutoring full-time after deciding to return to teaching.

My lessons are highly interactive and I encourage students to overcome language learning obstacles themselves through structured questioning. A typical lesson will introduce or reinforce a language point, which will then be practiced through speaking drills and freer discussion or role play activities. There will be opportunities to work on all four competencies (speaking, listening, reading and writing) as I include extracts from texts and videos into all classes and set writing tasks. I have over two years’ experience tutoring both French and English as a second language to beginner, intermediate and advanced learners. My degree in French and English gave me a strong theoretical knowledge of the structures underpinning both languages. My French lessons are best suited to beginner and intermediate learners or elementary and high school students.
