About Gertrude
I have a degree in French and Russian (with Translation) and have worked in teaching both in the UK and abroad. Because I mastered French through my own focused study, I’m able to explain the logic of the language very clearly to students who are struggling with the 'why' behind the rules. I focus on helping students go beyond the basic school curriculum by tailoring lessons to their specific interests. This ensures they build a real, lasting understanding of French rather than just memorising words for a test.
Crucially, I aim to build a supportive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks. I know how intimidating it can feel to speak a new language, so I focus on building a student’s confidence to try without the fear of making mistakes. I believe that the most meaningful progress happens when there is no embarrassment and judgement.

I hold a degree in French and Russian with Translation and have experience teaching French within a UK primary school setting as well as abroad. My methodology is structured and academic, moving away from 'surface-level' school curriculum learning toward genuine linguistic mastery. Having largely mastered the languages through self-directed study, I have a unique ability to deconstruct complex grammar and logic for my students in a way that schools often overlook.
My lessons are designed for primary and secondary school students who either want to ace exams, or work towards mastering the language. I tailor every session to the student's specific interests—whether that is science, history, or gaming—using those topics as a vehicle for advanced vocabulary and structural understanding. This personalised approach ensures high engagement and tangible results.
The teaching methodology I will apply will differ according to the student's particular needs. That being said, I will always combine various strategies in order to develop different skills, ranging from listening and reading comprehension, speaking, and writing.
